Membership Structure

Membership in the Higher Education Loan Coalition is open to all institutions that administer Direct Loans to students. Other parties who support the Coalition’s work may also apply for a noninstitutional membership. The Board of Directors must approve noninstitutional membership.

TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP

All dues-paying members are considered voting members of the Coalition, and each member has a single vote. Institutions that are active in Direct Lending and that participate in Coalition activities are considered nonvoting members. Any person or group who has made a notable contribution to the field of student financial aid, the Coalition, or the Direct Loan Program may be given an honorary or emeritus membership by the HELC Board of Directors. Honorary or emeritus members are considered nonvoting members of the organization.
