WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Higher Education Loan Coalition announced today that Kay Lewis will assume the role of Chair, succeeding Chuck Knepfle, as of July 1, 2015. Knepfle, who has served as Chair of the Coalition for the past two years will continue to serve as Past Chair of the Coalition.

“It was my pleasure to serve as the Chair for this dedicated organization over the last two years. I know we are handing the reigns of the Coalition to an individual who is passionate not only about student loans, but more broadly about student success, fairness, and access to college for everyone,” stated Knepfle. “Kay is a gifted leader and wonderful colleague who I know will continue the great work of the Higher Education Loan Coalition.”

Kay Lewis has worked in the financial aid profession since 1983 in a variety of institutions in the state of Washington. Currently she is the Executive Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships at the University of Washington and has worked there for over 20 years. She joined the Coalition’s Executive Council in July 2009 and has served as Chair Elect for the past two years.

“I’m excited to continue to build on the success of the Coalition. Chuck’s leadership has advanced our agenda to improve the student loan environment – from origination to servicing loans in repayment,” stated Lewis. “We will continue to advocate for the changes needed to best serve student borrowers and ensure that they can achieve their educational goals.”
